Best AI for JEE Preparation: 8 Tools for JEE Main 2027
The best AI for JEE preparation is free: NTA's Abhyas app for official mock tests and IIT Kanpur's SATHEE for lectures and an AI doubt bot in 13 languages. Add ChatGPT's free Study mode for step-by-step hints. JEE Main 2027 runs 20-28 January; registration closes 22 November 2026.

JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is close. According to the National Testing Agency's notice of 24 October 2026, registration runs until 22 November (with a ₹500 late fee until 26 November), admit cards come out on 13 January, and the exam is on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027. That leaves about 12 weeks.
AI can make those weeks more efficient: it clears doubts at midnight, explains a concept five different ways, and turns your notes into quizzes. It can also cost you marks. JEE Main gives +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one, and an AI that sounds confident while being wrong teaches exactly the wrong habit. This list ranks the tools by how much they help a JEE aspirant specifically, with prices in rupees and the limits we found on each tool's own pages on 29 October 2026.
What is the best AI for JEE preparation?
The two best tools cost nothing and come from the government. Use them first, then add one general AI tutor for doubts.
| Tool | Best for | Cost in India | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| NTA Abhyas | Official mock tests in the exam interface | Free, no ads | Scores don't predict your rank |
| SATHEE (IIT Kanpur) | Lectures, mocks, AI doubt bot in 13 languages | Free | Chatbot can make mistakes |
| ChatGPT Study mode | Step-by-step hints on doubts | Free; Go ₹399/month | Confident wrong answers |
| Gemini and Google Lens | Photographing a problem | Free; AI Plus ₹399/month | Student free year needs age 18+ |
| NotebookLM | Revising from NCERT and your notes | Free | Only as good as your sources |
| PW AI Guru | Doubts tied to Indian textbooks | Price not published | Best inside PW courses |
| Perplexity | Concept explanations with sources | Free learning mode; Pro in USD | Better for theory than numericals |
| Claude | Hard maths reasoning | Free tier; Pro $17-20/month in USD | Top scores came from a paid model |
1. NTA Abhyas: best for official mock tests
Nothing replaces practising in the interface you will sit the exam in. NTA's own app, now listed on Google Play as Abhyas AI, offers free mock tests for JEE Main in that interface, works offline, and tracks performance chapter by chapter. The listing says it is "completely free to use, with no subscription, paywall or advertisements".
Take one full mock a week now and two a week in January, and analyse every wrong answer. NTA's own caution is worth remembering: practice scores "do not predict or guarantee performance".
2. SATHEE: best free all-in-one option
SATHEE is the Ministry of Education's free preparation platform, run with IIT Kanpur. It covers JEE with video lectures, mock tests and Android and iOS apps, and its "Ask SATHEE" chatbot answers in English and 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Gujarati.
For a student who studies in Hindi or a regional language, this is the strongest free option on this list. The chatbot is upfront that it is "relatively new and can sometimes make mistakes", so treat its answers like a senior's help, not an answer key.
3. ChatGPT Study mode: best for clearing doubts step by step
ChatGPT's Study mode, under "Study and learn" in the tools menu, refuses to just hand you the answer. OpenAI says it guides you with hints, questions and knowledge checks, and it is available on the free plan for logged-in users. That is exactly how a good teacher handles a doubt: you do the last step yourself, which is the step the exam tests.
Paste or photograph a problem you are stuck on, ask for a hint rather than a solution, and only ask for the full method once you have tried. If you hit the free limits, ChatGPT Go costs ₹399 a month in India and Plus costs ₹1,999, according to OpenAI's pricing page checked from India on 24 October 2026.
4. Gemini and Google Lens: best for photographing a problem
When a question is in a book or a coaching sheet, typing it out wastes time. Google Lens has a homework-help mode that explains maths, physics and chemistry problems from a photo, and Gemini's Guided Learning mode, launched by Google in August 2025, is built to "build a deep understanding instead of just getting quick answers".
One thing to know about offers: Google's free year of Google AI Plus for students in India is only for "eligible university students aged 18 or older" and must be redeemed by 31 December 2026, per Google's student page. Most JEE aspirants in Class 12 won't qualify; our guide to the free Google AI Plus student offer explains who does. Without it, Google AI Plus is ₹399 a month.
5. NotebookLM: best for revising from NCERT and your own notes
Most JEE questions trace back to NCERT. NotebookLM lets you upload NCERT chapter PDFs and your own notes, then ask questions answered only from those sources, or turn a chapter into an audio overview to listen to on your commute. The free plan allows 100 notebooks with 50 sources each, according to Google's help centre.
Because answers come from your own material, it is less likely to wander off-syllabus than a general chatbot. Our NotebookLM study guide shows how to set it up.
6. PW AI Guru: best for doubts tied to Indian textbooks
Physics Wallah's AI Guru, inside the PW apps, lets you ask a doubt by typing, speaking or uploading an image of a textbook page. A 2025 Microsoft Research write-up describes it as built on OpenAI models with answers grounded in textbook content, often with a short teacher video, and reports about 2 million daily users.
It fits best if you already follow PW courses. Two honest caveats: PW does not publish a clear price for AI Guru on its own pages, and its CTO told Microsoft Research that model accuracy on hard maths was "not up to the mark", which is why answers lean on textbook material.
7. Perplexity: best for concepts with sources
Perplexity's learning mode ("Learn step by step" in the + menu) was opened to all users in February 2026, according to its changelog. It asks guiding questions and adjusts to your level, and because Perplexity cites sources, it is useful for theory questions where you want to see where an explanation comes from. Paid Pro is billed in US dollars in India, from US$17 a month on yearly billing.
8. Claude: best for hard maths reasoning
Claude is strong at multi-step reasoning. In an independent, non-peer-reviewed test by LearnOpenCV on the JEE Advanced 2026 paper, Claude Opus 4.8 scored 351 out of 360. That was a paid model, though: Claude Pro costs $17 a month on yearly billing or $20 monthly, charged in US dollars, so for most students the free options above come first.
Can AI solve JEE questions correctly?
Better than it used to, but not reliably enough to trust blindly. In IIT Delhi's JEEBench study (2023), GPT-4 scored about 31% on 515 JEE Advanced problems, and the authors found it "cannot assess the risk introduced by negative marking". By 2025, the mmJEE-Eval benchmark found top paid models scoring 77-84% on held-out JEE Advanced questions, while open-source models stayed at 37-45%. The same study found GPT-5 fixed only 5.2% of errors when asked to check its own work.
The pattern from these studies and LearnOpenCV's test is consistent about where AI still slips:
- Diagrams: misreading a figure, such as dropping a factor in a physics setup.
- Organic chemistry: misread skeletal structures and stereochemistry.
- Self-checking: asking an AI "are you sure?" rarely catches its own mistake.
- Free versus paid: the high scores come from top paid models; free tiers may do worse.
How do you use AI for JEE without losing marks?
- Ask for hints, not answers. Use Study mode, Guided Learning or Learn step by step, and solve the last step yourself.
- Check against NCERT or a solution key for anything with a diagram or an organic structure.
- Never let AI do your mock tests. Mocks measure you; NTA Abhyas and SATHEE are for that.
- Time yourself. A tutor that takes five minutes per doubt is fine in October and too slow in January.
- Keep a mistake log. Add your wrong answers to a NotebookLM notebook each week and ask it to explain the concept behind each one.
What should a 12-week AI study plan look like?
This is our suggested shape for the weeks left, built around NTA's dates; adjust it to your coaching schedule.
| Weeks | Dates | Focus | AI's role |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-4 | Now to late November | Register by 22 November; close weak chapters | Study mode or SATHEE for doubts; NotebookLM for NCERT |
| 5-8 | December | Full syllabus revision and one mock a week | Mistake-log review in NotebookLM; Lens for book questions |
| 9-11 | January to the admit card | Two mocks a week in NTA Abhyas | Only for post-mock doubts, never during a mock |
| 12 | Exam week | Light revision and sleep | Short formula quizzes, nothing new |

FAQ
Which is the best AI for JEE preparation?
Start with the free government tools: NTA Abhyas for official mock tests and IIT Kanpur's SATHEE for lectures and an AI doubt bot in 13 languages. Add ChatGPT's free Study mode or Gemini for step-by-step doubt clearing.
Is there a free AI tutor for JEE?
Yes. SATHEE's Ask SATHEE chatbot is free and works in English and 12 Indian languages, and ChatGPT's Study mode is available on the free plan. Both can make mistakes, so check answers against NCERT.
Can ChatGPT solve JEE Main questions?
Often, but not reliably. Benchmarks show top paid models now score highly on JEE Advanced questions, yet they still misread diagrams and organic structures and rarely catch their own errors. Use it for hints and explanations, not as an answer key.
When is JEE Main 2027?
Session 1 is on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027, according to NTA's notice of 24 October 2026. Registration closes on 22 November 2026, and admit cards are released on 13 January 2027.
Do JEE students get Google AI Plus free in India?
Usually not. Google's free year of AI Plus in India is for university students aged 18 or older who redeem by 31 December 2026, so most Class 12 aspirants are not eligible.
