Free AI Course With Certificate in India: 8 Real Options
The best free AI course with certificate in India is the government's YUVA AI for All: 4.5 hours, free, in Hindi and 10 other Indian languages, with a Government of India participation certificate. IBM SkillsBuild and Kaggle give free assessed certificates; Google AI Essentials isn't free.

"Free AI course with certificate" is one of the most common things Indian students and job-seekers search, and it is also where the small print hides. Some courses are free to watch but charge for the certificate. Some certificates are for participation, not for passing a test. And the course most people expect to be free, Google's, costs money in India.
We checked each course below on its provider's own page on 30 October 2026: how long it takes, what it costs, what kind of certificate you get, and whether it is available in Hindi.
Which free AI course with certificate should you take?

1. YUVA AI for All: best free AI course for most Indians
YUVA AI for All is the Government of India's free AI literacy course under the IndiaAI Mission. Its course page lists it as free, 4.5 hours long and available in 12 languages: English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi and Assamese. PIB says it is open to "anyone who can read, write and is curious to begin their AI journey" and that "every learner will get an official certificate from the Government of India".
Be clear about what that certificate is. The course page describes it as a "Joint Participation Certificate", with no assessment and no placement help. It proves you completed the course, not that you can build AI systems. For a student, homemaker or professional who wants to understand and use AI tools, it is the best place to start, and the six modules cover what AI is, prompting, using AI to learn and plan, and AI ethics.
2. NPTEL: most credible certificate, small fee
NPTEL courses are taught by IIT and IISc faculty and hosted on SWAYAM. SWAYAM says courses are "available free of cost to the learners", but a certificate needs a proctored exam taken in person at a centre, which carries a fee. NPTEL's course listings show ₹1,000 for its AI and machine learning courses, with a 50% waiver for SC, ST and PwD learners.
To pass, NPTEL's FAQ requires at least 40 out of 100 in assignments and 40 out of 100 in the final exam. NPTEL says colleges that approve credit transfer can use its marks or certificate. If you want a certificate that an Indian recruiter or college will recognise, this is the strongest option on the list, even though it is not entirely free. The next exam window is the January 2027 semester.
3. IBM SkillsBuild AI Fundamentals: best free assessed badge
IBM's AI Fundamentals is free, and its Credly badge is earned only after you "pass the graded quizzes and final assessments and complete the practice simulations". That makes it more meaningful than a participation certificate, and it shows up neatly on a LinkedIn profile. It is in English, with separate tracks for adults and for high-school students and educators.
4. Kaggle Learn: best for engineering students who code
Kaggle Learn says its courses are "provided at no cost to you" and "for every course you finish, you'll earn a completion certificate". The AI-relevant ones include Intro to Machine Learning, Intro to Deep Learning, Computer Vision and AI Ethics. They need basic Python, so they suit BTech and BCA students more than beginners.
5. LinkedIn and Microsoft: free generative AI courses through 2027
LinkedIn's Skills for In-Demand Jobs page says its AI courses, including Career Essentials in Generative AI and Microsoft Copilot for Productivity, are "available for free through 2027", and some end with a final exam and a certificate. Check before you start whether the certificate step itself is free on your account; the page does not say so explicitly.
6. Google: the free badge, and the course that isn't free
Google's Introduction to Generative AI is a 45-minute introduction that earns a skill badge. It is quick and light, a good first step rather than a qualification.
The Google course most people search for is different. Google AI Essentials is not free in India: Google's own page says "the subscription cost is $20 USD per month after an initial 7-day trial period at no cost". Coursera, which hosts it, lists financial aid. We also found no official Hindi version of either Google course, despite searches for one.
7. Jio AI Classroom: free, but the certificate needs JioPC
Jio AI Classroom is "free for everyone", available in 12 languages and split into four self-paced modules with quizzes. The catch is the certificate: Jio says learners "completing it on JioPC will be awarded an official certificate from Jio Institute", while everyone else gets a completion badge. It also works only on a laptop or desktop.
8. Elements of AI: well-known, but no Indian languages
Elements of AI, from the University of Helsinki and MinnaLearn, is a free introductory course that more than 2 million people have signed up for. It is longer and more conceptual than most courses here, and its language list has no Indian languages. Confirm the certificate terms on the course page when you enrol.
Is there a free AI course for school students and teachers?
Yes. The government's SOAR programme (Skilling for AI Readiness), launched in July 2025, offers 15-hour AI modules for students in Classes 6 to 12 and a 45-hour module for educators, according to PIB, through the Skill India Digital Hub. For classroom use, see our guides to AI tools for teachers and the CBSE AI curriculum.
Does a free AI certificate help you get a job?
On its own, rarely. A participation certificate shows curiosity; an assessed badge or an NPTEL score shows you passed something; a project shows you can do the work. Our advice: take YUVA AI for All to get started, earn one assessed credential (IBM SkillsBuild or NPTEL), then build something small with AI and put it on your CV. Our guide to AI tools for students covers the tools worth practising on, and JEE aspirants can see our best AI for JEE preparation list.
